Cool Ass Covers: Elton John Comes Through With A Cover Of Khalid’s “Young, Dumb & Broke”

How hype are you if you’re Khalid and you found out that the one and only Elton John covered one of your songs?!
Well, the Spotify Singles series has given us such a gift as Sir Elton not only kicked his particular session off with his 1973 classic “Bennie & The Jets” but also covered the smash single from the 20-year-old El Paso hitmaker.
“‘Young Dumb & Broke’ is a fabulous song, one of my favorites,” Elton says of the American Teen single in a statement released with the cover. “I discovered Khalid’s music a few years ago, and have been a fan ever since,” Elton continues. “We finally met when I played his home town of El Paso last year. It’s a thrill to be a small part of any new artist’s journey, and it’s been wonderful to see his star continue to rise and rise.”
Elton’s version of the record sounds like a little fun bit of light-op rock and Khalid himself shows up to deliver a few adlibs at the end.
“I’m really pleased that he liked my cover enough to contribute vocals,” Elton writes in his statement. See? A cosign from Elton friggin’ John!
