Your Vote, Your Future: 1965 Voting Rights Act Press Conference & Re-enactment

This year is the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act which prohibits racial discrimination in voting and was signed into law by fellow Texan President Lyndon B. Johnson. This law is as significant today as it was in 1965 and that is why we need Magic 102 to help get out the message about a series of events we will be holding.
On Thursday, August 6, 2015 the city will hold a press conference, conduct a re-enactment of the signing of the Act by President Johnson, and have a day of voter registration at designated sites. The registration sites will provide people an opportunity to participate and exercise their civic duty by registering to vote free from discrimination.
The press conference and re-enactment will be held at 10:00am at the Mickey Leland Federal Office Building located 1919 Smith Street, Houston, TX 77002. Voter registration will begin at 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. at the following sites:
