Loud noises and unexpected events are experiences that cause anxiety for those with autism.

The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is now taking all of those factors into consideration by creating autism-friendly shows.

First show in line is the annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular the starring high-kicking Rockettes on Dec.6.

“The show, part of the Hobby Center Foundation’s Autism Theatre Initiative, aims to promote inclusion for people with autism-spectrum disorders,” said Bryant Shaw, director of the Monarch Institute’s diagnostic clinic according to the Houston Chronicle.

The shows are strategically formulated to accommodate parents and children in every aspect. Bean bags, educational materials, quiet spaces, and activity areas are all provided in the lobby should those with autism need a break.

It is important for families to enjoy holiday festivities together regardless of their special needs.
