Music is timeless, eight legends in their respective music genres will be honored at the 58th annual Grammy Awards.
According to The FADER, two legends in hip hop, Run-DMC and Herbie Hancock are slated to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy Foundation. Even though Run DMC never won a Grammy, they were the first hip hop crew to ever be nominated for the prize in the Best R&B Vocal Performance category because there wasn’t a Rap category in 1984.
“Each year, The Academy has the distinct privilege of honoring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage, and this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honorees. Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come.” explained by President/CEO of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow.
That night Celia Cruz, Earth Wind & Fire, Ruth Brown, Jefferson Airplane, John Cage, and Linda Ronstadt will also be honored as Lifetime Achievement winners at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards on February 15th.
