Per Sony‘s request, all promotional media appearances for The Interview have been cancelled. Though despite the cancellations, the film is receiving a high volume of press coverage.
Since the Sony Pictures Entertainment hacking situation, the company decided to back out from all interviews associated with promoting the film. The blackout also includes Thursdays’s New York City premier.
“Franco, 36, and Rogen, 32, also pulled out of joint appearances on Buzzfeed Brews Tuesday and NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday. Rogen’s Thursday appearance on NBC’s The Late Night With Seth Meyers has also been canceled in wake of the unidentified hackers’ most recent threat,” said E!News.
The movie plays out an undercover CIA plan to murder North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which the foreign country sees as an act of terrorism. Therefore, Sony feels obliged to take all precautions against the issue. A recent threat released Tuesday warns Sony about the consequences associated with the film’s public screening.
“Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time,” the hacker group wrote. “If your house is nearby, you’d better leave. Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment,” said E!News.
As of now, Sony gave movie theaters nationwide the option playing the film.
