The tension between citizens and police are at an all-time high after the recent killing of Terrance Crutcher by a Tulsa policewoman.
TV host and comedian, Steve Harvey taught his audience a unique set of instructions on the Steve Harvey show that detailed instructions on how to survive an encounter with the police as a black man, which he learned firsthand.

The motivation behind following these rules is to “[not] give them a pin to stick you with,” according to Harvey. The tips themselves are incredibly intricate, illustrating how the burden of responsibility in those situations falls heavily on black civilians rather than police officers.
People on Twitter responded to the Harvey’s teachings for coming up with a method for interacting with police and its unfairness.
@IAmSteveHarvey I am gutted that we have to teach our young men to be subservient to those who should be protecting them & to be afraid

Others noted how compliance does not always work either, highlighting how the discussion should be shifted to police actions instead.
@IAmSteveHarvey @soledadobrien But as we know that doesn’t always work. That is so terrifying. We can’t do anything to guarantee our safety.

@IAmSteveHarvey racist cops prevail. They must be held accountable for their actions. That’s what needs to be discussed.

Whether or not people share that criticism of such rules, Steve Harvey’s advice is a reflection of the current state of fear in America.
