The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards airs tomorrow Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET at The Forum in Inglewood, California. This year’s host is pop super star Katy Perry who will perform her single “Swish Swish” with Nicki Minaj and a slew of other performances from Miley Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar, Fifth Harmony, Logic, and Thirty Seconds to Mars just to name a few.

In addition to the awards, musical performances, and funky clothing, the VMAs is night where any thing can happen. For real, like ANYTHING. Presidential bid anyone? So in preparation for the big night, let’s take a look at some the jaw-dropping, entertaining, and unforgettable moments of past shows.

In 1998, Green Day finally won a moon man after countless losses over the years, and drummer Tre Cool decided to celebrate by literally climbing the rotating Universal globe.

Shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, appeared on the red carpet with then-girlfriend, Rose Mcgowan, who stole the show in her see-through dress and thong. Remember, for 1998, this was truly scandalous.

In 1999, Lil’ Kim stepped out on the red carpet in her infamous purple jumpsuit with her bare breast free save for a pasty. She later appeared on stage with Mary J. Blige and Diana Ross to present the Best Hip-Hop Video award, with Ross taking the moment to Kim’s breast a little bounce.

At the 2001 VMAs, Pop Princess, Britney Spears, performed “Slave 4 U” with the assistance of a caged tiger and an albino Burmese python, further sexualizing her image. It goes down as one her more iconic performances, however, it did draw a great deal of criticism from animal rights group PETA.

With the 2002 awards show, rapper Eminem found himself caught between two foes. First with the singer Moby, who prior to the show, referred to the rapper as “very clever, but he’s also a misogynist, a homophobe, a racist, and an anti-Semite.” Of course, Slim Shady took offense and threaten to fight him during the show.

Things took an interesting turn once Christina Aguilera announced the winner for Best Male Video. Eminem ended up winning the award and shared an awkward moment with Aguilera upon accepting the Moon Man. At the time, the pair were not on good terms due to some choice lyrics from the rapper on his song “The Real Slim Shady“.

In 2003, the world was left in shock following the performance of Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera which culminated in the kiss of the decade. It was all any one could talk about, with countless magazine covers featuring the kiss.

2006, pop-punk band, Panic At the Disco won Video of the Year and before they could give their thank you’s, a man calling himself Sixx jumped onstage accusing MTV of denying him at TV show. He was Kanye before Kanye.

2007, will go down as one of Britney Spears’ worst performances and it went down on live television. The performance was hyped up as the singer’s comeback after a public breakdown with her shaving head prior to the show. Television audiences and celebs in attendance were left in disbelief at the utter train wreck happening before them. 50 Cent’s face says it all.

The moment that started it all between Taylor Swift and Kanye West. While making her acceptance speech for Best Female Video, Kanye stormed the stage, taking the mic and exclaiming “…I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! Of all time!”

Beyoncé later allowed Taylor to come back on stage after winning Video of the Year to give her another chance to make her acceptance speech.

In 2010, Lady Gaga shocked everyone when she went onstage in a dress completely made of meat and performed a snippet of “Born This Way”. She won a total of eight awards that night.

On the record of the 2011 MTV VMAs, Beyoncé announced her pregnancy of Blue Ivy and made another during her performance of “Love On Top”. That night, she set the record for most mentions in a second on Twitter (8,868).

As part of her attempt to shed the Disney  image, Miley Cyrus performed her single “We Can’t Stop” wearing a one-piece bodice going into a duet with Robin Thicke for “Blurred Lines”. Things became weird when Cyrus then stripped down to a flesh colored bikini and began twerking on Thicke and groping his genitals with a giant foam finger. Celebrity members in the audience reactions to the performance like Rihanna and One Direction pretty much summed up what everyone was thing.

Beyoncé performs a medley of her songs from her self-titled album as part of her acceptance to the Video Vanguard Award. The award was presented to her by husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy.

2015, Taylor Swift does what would be unimaginable today, calling Kanye West her friend as she introduces him for the Video Vanguard Award. Instead of doing a performance, Kanye uses the time to discuss his opens on the world, the industry, and politics ending with a supposed 2020 Presidential bid. Only Kanye…
