X-Tina is back! Christina Aguilera officially announced her return to music earlier this morning with the release of “Accelerate,” a brand new, hip-hop tinged single featuring Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz. The track is set to appear on her new album, Liberation due out in June!
“I love 2 Chainz’s part,” she told Billboard. The new album features guest appearances from Demi Lovato, Keida & Shenseea along with production from Kanye West and others.
As to why she’s officially done with The Voice, a show which she calls an “energy sucker,” she says, “I was longing for freedom.” She rememebers coming home from the set, “I would just take everything off — the makeup, all of it — and would blast hip-hop, or Nirvana, ‘Creep,’ Slayer. Anything like that to get me out of that zone, that TV mode.”
She continued, “It became something that I didn’t feel was what I had signed up for in season one. You realize it’s not about music. It’s about making good TV moments and massaging a story. I didn’t get into this business to be a television show host and to be given all these. Especially as a female: You can’t wear this, can’t say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet.”
